Subject: RE: Lightning Protection Test Results & Recommendations

What a great report….It is welcoming to use a company who carries out work to this standard, and who’s engineers take pride in what they do.

Hello to you all,

As you may be aware our role as principal contractor, for the capital works programme 2010, will cease as of Friday 30th April ’10 at 16:00. You are therefore advised to contact your relevant project manager within EC Harris to gain any future access to site and to review your health and safety documentation.

It has been a pleasure working with you all and wish you all the best in the future.

Its good to be able to report that the Quinquennial works contract was completed on Friday 23 October, four weeks ahead of schedule and within the agreed contract cost. Stone Technical Services of Darlington executed the repair works to a particularly high standard. They were ably led on by Ian Clegg who was most helpful and cooperative in all situations. Disturbance of church activities was kept to an absolute minimum.

The most visible works were on the spire, resplendent now with its new apex stone and crowning weather vane. I am told the light colour of the stone will quickly tone down to match the adjacent stonework. The other prominent item was the repairing of the floor around the Mitford Chapel altar. The stone came from quarries near Leyburn in North Yorkshire. The original external infill stonework to the old door on the north side of the nave was crumbling and was demolished and beautifully re-built.

Day to day inspections of the works were made by Ces Maddison of architects Purves Ash. They carried out the Quinquennial inspection in 2007. Purves Ash also monitored the health and safety aspects of the full site works. Grateful thanks to all parties for the spirit of cooperation, and the essential ingrediant of a touch of humour.

Further to our meeting of today at the above i can confirm the following:

  • The conservation officer, Heather Grimshaw, has inspected the work and is of the opinion that it is satisfactory (as indicated at the meeting).
  • The areas highlighted in the report, being those that you have contractually undertaken to carry out repairs to, have been satisfactorily completed.
  • Additional work, generally pointing, replacement of bricks and re-setting of copings has been done and, as agreed, at no additional cost to Darlington Borough Council.
  • The works have been left in a clean and safe condition.

My thanks, in particular to the site foreman Paul Tinkler for his conscientious approach to the work, and to yourself on behalf of Stone Technical Services Ltd.

Regards

Hi Julian

This is just to remind you that I am away from tomorrow until the 19th, and as I have not yet received a bill nor an authority to pay, there will be no action on this now on our part until w/c 21st September.  I am sorry for the delay that will be involved as I feel STS deserves prompt payment - the job looks good and makes a very positive impression visually on everyone who sees it, and Terry was a great ambassador for the firm,

Best regards,
Paul

Dear Alan

Please find enclosed a cheque for the conductor fitted at Hutton Rudby.  We were very pleased with the neat finish.

Kind regards, Anna Scott
