Major Industry Accreditation as Middlesex Company is Officially SAFE
Pinner-based Stone Technical Services has become a member of a top-rated health and safety scheme designed to help improve the safety record of companies operating in a range of industries.
Stone recently received accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a programme that recognises exceptionally high standards of health and safety amongst UK contractors.
SAFEcontractor status enhances a company’s ability to attract new contracts and insurers view the accreditation as an outstanding commitment to safety.
The system is operated by international health, safety and environmental risk management specialists, the National Britannia Group, and is applicable to many sectors including property, facilities management, retail and leisure and food manufacture.
To become a SAFEcontractor, businesses must undergo a strict vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Companies meeting the high standards required are then included on a database, accessible to registered users seeking to vet specific contractors before engaging them.
Stone, based on March Road in Pinner, specialises in all aspects of high level maintenance, safety systems, lightning conductor installation, steeplejack services and the restoration of churches and historic buildings, as well as services related to industrial steeplejacks.
Working all over the UK on a variety of high profile buildings such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Selfridges in London and for organisations such as English Heritage and the National Trust, Stone employs 18 people at offices on Kellaw Road in Darlington and in Pinner, Middlesex.
Dave Stone, who runs Stone Technical Services, said: “Health and safety are our main priority as the nature of our trade presents some high risks. As a company we do all that we can to promote the need for stringent checks on contractors and the need for an exemplarily standard as far as health and safety issues are concerned.”
Darran Hughes, operations director for SAFEcontractor, added: “Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies.
“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Stone has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”
